Community Engagement

for Weasel Solar Farm

We’re building more than a solar farm. We’re building a lasting partnership with the Bothwell community.

Our project team is committed to transparent, proactive engagement and meaningful collaboration at every stage.

This means:

  • Attending the Bothwell District High School Careers Expo and other community events.

  • Encouraging applications from local contractors and workers to help deliver the project.

  • Seeking community ideas for local projects needing funding.

  • Keeping the community informed as we break ground and move towards construction.

  • Celebrating together once the solar farm is complete.

Local ideas and involvement will help shape a project that respects our shared environment and supports our region’s social and economic future.

Stay informed, get involved, and work with us to make a positive impact.

Supporting Future Careers in the Highlands

We’re excited to share an update on our involvement in the first Bothwell District High School Careers Expo, held on Thursday 28 August 2025. Students from Bothwell, Glenora, Brighton, and Oatlands schools came together to explore career opportunities - and the Weasel Solar Farm and Cellars Hill Wind Farm team was proud to be part of it.

More than 25 exhibitors filled the gym and outdoor areas, creating a lively and inspiring event for students, parents, and teachers. Our project stall featured interactive activities, information boards, and giveaways designed to spark conversations about renewable energy careers.

Gamuda Australia, our project partner, generously donated a $2,000 scale model mobile crane (the same type used to install turbines) to Bothwell District High School. Another model crane was awarded to the student who asked the best question on the day - a fun way to encourage curiosity about future opportunities.

The Expo reminded us that young people in the Highlands are ambitious, curious, and eager to see how renewable energy can support their futures.

We’re proud to have been part of this event and look forward to continuing to work with schools and communities to inspire the next generation of workers, innovators, and leaders.

Supporting Our Community

The project team is conscious of their role in responsible land stewardship and seeks to create a project that delivers positive outcomes for the Highlands community.

Throughout the project’s lifecycle, the project team is committed to consistent, proactive and meaningful engagement with neighbouring landowners, the local community and key stakeholders.

The landowners, as members of the local community themselves, are passionate about ensuring the Highlands benefits directly from a successful project. They have canvassed ideas with other members of the community to identify potential options for direct community investment (of approximately $125,000).

This could include $20,000 to the local fire brigade (training and equipment), $10,000 for the Bothwell Rabbits Football Club and the balance for other community benefits.

Energy grants or emergency funds are being considered.

Community Drop-In Session

Prior to lodging the Development Application, we focused on speaking with nearby neighbours and providing the broader community with information about the project to provide feedback.

On Thursday 31 October 2024 the project team hosted a community drop-in session at Bothwell Town Hall between 4:00pm and 7:00pm.

At the session, the project team provided more information about the proposal, including a project overview, site context map, site photos, indicative turbine area, indicative annual energy subsidy catchment, flora and fauna, planning pathway, the proponent and a render from the centre of Bothwell.
